Rowan Road was one of the largest sites in the Design for Manufacture Competition launched by the then Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in 2005. The scheme aimed to showcase how sustainable housing could be delivered within a reasonable budget using modern methods of construction including offsite manufacture. We worked with Kingspan Offsite who manufactured the structural insulated panel systems (SIPS) for the buildings. More information about Kingspan timber panel systems can be found here. A sustainable drainage strategy which sits within the 2.6Ha of public open space was designed to work within the floodplain of the Friggs Marsh Ditch, a tributary of the River Wandle. The scheme received a housing design award in 2012 and continues to be one of the best legacies of the Design for Manufacture Competiton.
We recently re-visited the site to take aerial photos with our new Inspire 1 UAV and to see how the wetlands have established over time.
